Silicone Resin has Many Performance Advantages.
High thermal stability:
Silicone resin can be used for a long time at 200℃-250℃ without decomposition or discoloration, and can even withstand high temperatures of 300℃ for a short time. If heat-resistant pigments and fillers are added, the temperature resistance can be higher, and some special silicone resins can reach 800℃-900℃. This excellent heat resistance makes it suitable for coating on various high-temperature resistant parts, such as high-temperature furnaces, automobile and motorcycle mufflers and other equipment used in high-temperature environments.
Excellent weather resistance:
First, the Si-O bond in silicone resin is very stable, and it is difficult to produce free radical reactions caused by ultraviolet rays, and it is not easy to undergo oxidation reactions; second, silicone resin is not sensitive to sunlight, and methylsiloxane hardly absorbs ultraviolet rays, so it is less affected by sunlight. Therefore, silicone resin is widely used as a film-forming polymer for highly weather-resistant coatings and is suitable for occasions with long-term outdoor exposure.
Good electrical insulation:
Silicone resin can maintain good electrical insulation performance in a wide range of temperature and frequency. Its electrical performance is much better than that of general organic resins under high temperature and humid conditions. It also has high heat resistance, with little reduction in electrical properties at high temperatures, and very little change in high-frequency properties with frequency. This makes silicone resin widely used in fields such as motors, electrical appliances, and electronics that require high insulation performance.
Strong water resistance:
In the molecular structure of silicone resin, organic groups such as methyl are arranged outward and do not contain polar groups, so its water absorption rate is low and it has excellent hydrophobicity. Silicone resin has strong resistance to cold water, but poor resistance to water vapor, especially high-pressure steam. However, under general use conditions, its water resistance is sufficient to meet the needs.
Good air permeability:
The intermolecular forces of silicon-containing polymers are weak and the free space is large, which makes silicone resins have high air permeability. In some application scenarios that require air permeability, such as gas separation membranes and breathable coatings, silicone resins have unique advantages.
High surface activity and low tension:
Polysiloxane is a symmetrical molecule, with non-polar organic groups as the substituents, and the entire molecule is non-polar. The intermolecular forces are small, and the cohesive force is also small, so the surface tension is small. This enables it to reduce the surface tension of the medium in applications such as coatings, play a role in defoaming and leveling, and can be used as a defoaming agent and leveling agent.
Good cold resistance:
The structure of the macromolecules of silicone paint itself makes the attraction between molecules weak, giving it good cold resistance. The cold resistance of pure silicone can reach about -50℃, while the polyester-modified silicone paint can withstand temperatures below -80℃, so it can be used in relatively cold areas.
Good chemical resistance:
Due to the presence of ether bonds in silicone paint, it has good chemical resistance. For example, the paint film can still maintain good condition after being immersed in chemical reagents such as 2% acetic acid, 10% hydrochloric acid, 10% nitric acid, 10% sulfuric acid, 10% caustic soda, 10% sodium chloride or butanol, kerosene, etc. for 100 hours.
